On Monday, October 10, 2022, feed was highlighted as a crucial need in the cultivation of aquatic organisms like fish. Feed accounts for 60-70% of the total production costs for fish farmers in each production cycle. The high price of raw materials, especially fish meal, combined with relatively low fish prices, presents a significant challenge that needs a solution.
Recognizing this, the Fish Nutrition Laboratory of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Mulawarman University, felt it necessary to organize a fish feed production training as a form of community engagement. Utilizing local ingredients readily available to farmers is expected to solve this problem for several reasons: local raw materials are easy to obtain, relatively cheaper, don’t require high technology for preparation, contain sufficiently high nutrients, and have been proven capable of substituting fish meal in fish feed formulations.
