On February 8-10, 2023, the Faculty of Fisheries at Mulawarman University (Unmul) held a Curriculum Workshop at the Bluesky Hotel Balikpapan. The event was officially opened by the Dean, followed by a presentation of results from the Aquaculture Study Program Coordinator.

The Coordinator of the Aquaculture Study Program comprehensively presented the program’s vision and mission, which received full support from the workshop participants. Discussions then proceeded with proposals for new courses and the concept of a Skill-Based Internship to Revitalize Courses (MBKM), focusing on their relevance and the program’s needs.

Several important decisions were also made, including the drafting of course names and codes in English to improve accessibility and understanding for students. The credit load (SKS) for Semester 1 and 2 was set at 20 credits, while the Oceanography course will only be taken by Aquaculture, PSP, and IKL students in Semester 3, tailored to the needs of each respective program.

It was also agreed to standardize the approach across all study programs for organizing proposal and results seminars, and to change the name of PKL to Praktek Kerja Lapangan (Field Work Practice) in accordance with the Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI) and the 2023 Ministerial Regulation. A proposal to change “skripsi” (thesis) to “Tugas Akhir” (Final Project) was also submitted, aligning with evolving academic needs.

Furthermore, elective courses will be offered across other study programs, faculties, or universities in the even semester to broaden students’ academic choices.

The workshop’s outcomes led to recommended follow-up actions, including drafting the curriculum plan, submitting proposed course and naming changes to relevant parties, and socializing these changes to students and staff. The workshop proceeded smoothly with productive discussions, yielding solutions that will be promptly implemented as per the agreed plan.
