Aquaculture Partnership Discussion between the Aquaculture Study Program and the UPT of Science and Technology, Borneo Tarakan University: Development of Mud Crab and Black Tiger Shrimp Culture in a Silvofishery System

On Friday, December 16, 2022, at 10:00 AM WITA, an engaging discussion took place between the Aquaculture Study Program of FPIK UNMUL and the UPT. Science and Technology of Universitas Borneo Tarakan. The event was held in the Arwana Meeting Room at FPIK UNMUL, with the central theme “Development of Mangrove Crab and Tiger Shrimp Aquaculture in Silvofishery Systems.”

The discussion featured Dr. Ir. Samsul Rizal, S.Pi., M.Si., IPM., an expert in mangrove crab and tiger shrimp cultivation, as the main speaker. The event was moderated by Mr. Sumoharjo, S.Pi., M.Si. The presence of lecturers from FPIK UNMUL’s Aquaculture Study Program and several lecturers from UPT. Science and Technology of Universitas Borneo Tarakan provided a diversity of valuable perspectives and experiences to the discussion.

The objective of this discussion was to deliberate on development strategies for mangrove crab and tiger shrimp aquaculture, with an emphasis on implementing a silvofishery system. The silvofishery concept integrates aquaculture with mangrove forest management, creating a mutually beneficial ecosystem balance.
